Prevent Lock "Bumping"

If your home is protected by an ordinary lock, it may not do you too much good, according to the National Crime Prevention Council

Thieves have cought on to an increasingly popular  technique called  "bumping" .   It is easier than traditional lock picking  which requires manipulating the pins inside a lock with small tools.   All that's needed for bumping is a "bump key" that is specially manipulated to pick the lock without other tools.  

The National Crime Prevention Council wants homeowners to be aware of the prevelance of bumping, especially because there are many "how-to" videos online demostrating how easy bumping is.  read more

Gas Station Safety Tips

Recently, there has been increased media coverage across the country regarding theft at gas stations. The unique setting allows thieves to catch their victims by complete surprise -- when they are pumping gas or paying their tab inside the station. Most of the time, gas station customers leave their car doors unlocked and items like purses and wallets are often left in plain view. A thief is able to drive up next to the victim's car, open an unlocked door, and grab any valuables within reach. Then, the thief quickly drives off. It happens in a matter of seconds.  read more

Gangs are a growing security threat within our own borders

Most people who read the newspaper or pay any attention at all to what is happening are aware of the porosity of our borders. People also are aware that the current administration, the two major political parties and Congress seem unwilling to do anything about it.

The media covers the sensational aspects of the problem, usually due to the crimes involved; however, few, if any, concrete, workable solutions are offeredjust a lot of hand-wringing.

Recently, I watched a program on television titled Prison Nation, which devoted a lot of time to gangs and their subcultures.
